We are interested in churches across America and would like to share the results of our last survey as well as continue to study the Catholic community.
Among other results, we found that the majority of churches were built between either 1850 and 1900 or 1950-2000 and water is the main cause of damages. Interestingly, we discovered that 62% of the churches feature no decorative painting and 53% do not even have any artwork or murals. That means that roughly 50% of America’s churches are completely void of the beauty and decoration that should support the Mass. As a company that specializes in decoration and restoration we are naturally interested working in churches but as Catholics we are dedicated to the historical use of ecclesiastical art as a way of handing on The Faith and engaging the soul. There is a bigger picture beyond walking through the motions of faith; sacred spaces need to be elevated to reflect the beauty of their purpose, the Mass.
The traditional churches can be restored and the midcentury and modern churches can be transformed. Pure beauty speaks directly to and satisfies the soul, fore that which is beautiful is true and that which is true must be beautiful, thus through a pure expression of beauty the faithful may find a visual connection with the Divine. There are possibilities for beautification beyond the whitewash and the simplistic architecture. We believe we have a responsibility to share our knowledge and passion for beauty with America so that the youth now and to come can experience the beauty of Catholicism that inspires the soul.
