Our Lady Help of Christians

Canning restored the delicate color palette and design scheme revealed by our historic paint study and scientific analysis that is typical of churches dedicated to Marian worship.

This project involved research, investigation, and development of decorative schemes throughout the church interior. Based on the historic design uncovered and scientific paint analysis, the decorative finishes were conserved, consolidated and reinstated in the sanctuary, nave, transept, aisles, and balcony. Plaster and fine art murals were also conserved and restored.

The interior is distinctly that of James Murphy and in keeping with the Keely school of architecture. The dedication to Our Lady Help of Christians is illustrated in the delicate feminine patterns and colors throughout the church. The restoration of these details was integral to reinstating the tradition and history of the church as well as the historic interior.

Working with the church and the architects, we were able to apply our collective knowledge from working in Murphy and Keely churches as well as our investigative studies and utilize our craftsmanship in the decorative arts to the restore and conserve this magnificent interior.
