The ceiling at First Church of Christ had severe cracks and failing plaster throughout the ceiling of the church. Upon further investigation, it was found that the structural support and framing was failing and the original historic plaster was pulling away from the lath. Canning brought in GNCB Engineers to assess the structural integrity of the framing and joists and Canning assessed and documented the failing plaster substrate.

Working from above the attic space, the ceiling was consolidated using in adhesive injection system. This reinforced the integrity of the plaster as well as its attachment to the historic wood lath.

Additional projects have also been performed since the initial plaster stabilization. Some of the additional scope included a historic paint investigation, plaster repairs as well as the sanctuary repainting and redecoration. The decoration included the Trompe l'oeil illusionistic painting technique.
