Restoring to the designer’s original intent and architecture style
Oil, water, and tempera paints on plaster, canvas, and wood require different cleaning, conservation, and restoration techniques. Canning’s experience, knowledge, and skill combine to create a nuanced approach to working on and with these historic compounds and substrates.
Most of our projects – large and small – involve some degree of conservation and restoration. In these cases, care is taken to determine the designer’s original intent and to remain faithful to it.
Even in cases where new work is commissioned, our creativity is informed by liturgical convention, historic iconography, and the architectural style of the building in which it will appear.
